Milan | Day 6

Coffee, the Cathedral and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

We arrived in Milan by train from the Cinque Terre and made our way to the place that we had arranged to stay through Airbnb. After we waited for awhile in his complex, Diego showed up and took us to his place. After checking us in, Diego told us about a local place that makes their own pasta daily and we took his recommendation and enjoyed sharing a delightful plate of gnocchi as the cafe finished up business for the day.

The next morning, Diego recommended a coffee shop right around the corner from his place and we enjoyed lattes and two delicious tarts, including a pistachio one that was delightful. Diego stopped by and grabbed some coffee before heading out for the day and we said goodbye from there and headed toward the cathedral.

Duomo Cathedral

Milan's Duomo Cathedral stands tall above the Piazza del Duomo and is one of Milan's most iconic sites. Since we only had a half day in Milan before catching our plane to Germany, this stop was our priority. The cathedral is quite impressive and the detailed reliefs on its largest door fascinated me.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II

The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a gorgeous shopping structure just off the square where the cathedral sits. Famous for its Prada flagship store that has been in business since 1913, the Galleria itself opened in 1867 as one of the oldest malls in the world. We enjoyed the stunning architecture along with the throngs of people pouring through the Galleria's corridors.
